The crowd roars in shock as the junior class dominates over the seniors, taking the crown for 2024 Homecoming Volleyball Champion title. After three days of games that happened before school, the four classes were set to play one more game in front of the school on Thursday, September 19th during the Homecoming Day Pep Rally in the gym. All eyes were on the juniors and seniors, who faced off for the 2nd time in a row after they played against each other the day before in a close game where seniors won by a mere 4 points.
Every pass, set, hit, and serve was critical, as the classes fought neck-in-neck for points. Ultimately, in the end, it was the junior class of 2026 that reigned superior over the senior class.
“I feel so proud,” said Tanner Luna (11), sharing his gratitude. ”This is my first year of [participating in] Homecoming, so I feel like we’ve come so far from this year.”
“We’re very proud of the players, we saw improvements from the start of Homecoming [practices] ‘til now,” said Junior Brycen Alexander Balbag.
Of course, while there’s ups to the process of the practices and games, there’s also the downs. Some obstacles teams had to overcome were issues like students who were not signed up to be part of Homecoming Volleyball would join the team for a day and then leave, as well as some schedule coordination and volleyball-related challenges. For next year, the junior class plans to mitigate these problems so they won’t occur next year, where they’ll have to defend their volleyball title as seniors.
“First off, we need to run cleaner practices, that means no random people showing up, no other underclassmen, and we need more people to participate,” says Jayden Christopher Sabas (11).
“I think [we can] be more consistent practicing the actual game instead of messing around the entire time,” Junior Natalie Jenks stated.
Yet despite these issues that the juniors encountered, they did their best to address them, made adjustments, and ultimately were able to be crowned our 2024 Homecoming Volleyball Champions.
