Jayden Grevious is an 11th-grade athlete for the Na Menehune Track and Field team, part of Moanalua’s extensive athletic program. Grevious runs the 100-meter and 200-meter sprint events as well as the long jump event. In the 100, Grevious is ranked second in the state with a personal record (PR) of 10.68 seconds. In the 200, he is ranked first, as he sprinted a very impressive 21.76-second time. Further, he is also a top performer for the long jump, leaping a whopping 22’0.5’, crowning him first in the state for the long jump category as well.
Many find that being a top performer in the state for all of his events is a very impressive resumé for an 11th grader. The future looks bright for Jayden as he has received his first Division 1 (D1) offers from West Point Army and the Navy. If he continues on his path of excellence and breaking records, it is safe to say that there will be many more D1 offers coming up.
Grevious is a multisport athlete. Outside of track season, you can still find him training at the Moanalua stadium, but instead of sprinting the perimeter, he’ll be donning pads and a helmet, playing for Moanalua’s football team as a corner. When asked which sport he preferred, Grevious had a hard time choosing.
“I really enjoy football. I enjoy practices, games, and just bonding with my teammates and coaches…but I love track and field with my whole heart. I hope I can continue to run even after high school.”
Junior Elijah Taylor, a teammate and close friend of Jayden says, “He’s a great guy, a hard worker, and a great motivator. We do mostly the same events [in track] and we’re the same age and his attitude towards everyone and success in his events is very inspirational.”
With so many of his teammates speaking highly of Grevious, it is obvious that he is loved and respected by his teammates, but further, he also seems to be a big inspiration to his younger brother, Kyle Grevious. Kyle is in 8th grade and goes to Moanalua Middle School, and just like his older brother, he is a student-athlete. When asked about his older brother, Kyle shared, “My brother pushes me to be better and is a large factor in my improvement. We compete with everything at home, and having someone older, stronger, and who has more experience than you constantly challenging me in everything makes me much better.”
With teammates and coaches viewing him as a prime example of what it means to be a team player, it was no surprise when the Moanalua track coaches have decided to name Grevious as a captain. Grievous is the only Junior on the team to be named Captain, and evidently, he deserves the title. His teammates love him, he’s a great athlete, he has broken a plethora of school records, he turns heads at every track meet he goes to, and he still has one more year of high school to improve. With Grevious in sight, the future looks bright.
