More than 400 students will be on campus this long weekend for the second Shoots Summit, a conference and competition for students in broadcast, film, and graphics.
Teachers from Hawaii Creative Media (HCM), a media education group made up of teachers from across the state, and the Department of Education are collaborating on this three-day event, which will see elementary, middle and high schools participating in competitions and attending sessions led by industry professionals.
“We wanted [the summit] to be educational, and not just focus on competition,” Moanalua High School media teacher and HCM member Austin Zavala said. “At some other events, the competition can take over.”
Actress Evangeline Lilly (The Hurt Locker, Ant-Man, The Hobbit) will be one of the opening speakers. Media professionals will lead 68 workshops over a two-day period. Olelo Mobile Productions will have an equipment van in Mene Square.
