CCC Classroom Maxes Out

It’s possible to have too much of a good thing, even in high school. The overwhelming enrollment in the College and Career Center’s Google Classroom reached its maximum enrollment, forcing the college counselors to have to create a new Google Classroom aimed just at the freshmen and sophomores.

Google Classroom limits membership to 1,000, so in a school twice that size, Moanalua High School’s first college classroom filled up quickly.

“The class actually had between 400-500 freshmen alone,” College and Career Counselor Rebecca Himuro said. “So that’s a good thing.”

Having a new Classroom will work well because the grade 9 and 10 students need fewer documents than the juniors and seniors, who need to access transcript request forms and need to learn about seeking letters of recommendation, she said.

“[The underclassmen] will still be able to access the weekly College and Career Bulletin and schedule meetings and virtual college visits” through the new site, Himuro said.

Himuro said she removed the underclassmen and will email them after the October break inviting them to the new class.  About 100 freshmen have already joined the new classroom, she said.
